Played here 8-27-08 for the first time, and fell in love! It is a terrific golf course...unfortunately, it's closing on 12-07-08, and the land is to be for housing (its location near the Aberdeen Proving Ground is the cause: APG is planned to grow substantially as a result of people moving in from other bases being closed). This is almost a links-type course, since the terrain is low and slightly rolling, with a bit of parkland thrown in, as there are several holes where large trees come into play (or at least must be considered). The architect did a magnificent job. No two holes look anything alike, and each presented a unique approach and challenge. Conditions were superb, from tee boxes to bunkers. Fairways are wider in the landing areas than they appear from the tee box, and we found the greens to be really fun. They are all large, most are very heavily contoured, and fortunately for us, were only medium fast. Bunkers were in great shape, and very playable. A fair amount of water on the course, but not excessive, and we didn't feel that any of the holes were unfair, either in design or set up. Course is walkable, if you're so inclined. The clubhouse is very nice, and the pro shop well stocked. Staff was uniformly excellent. Beechtree provides a delightful golfing experience, and it's a shame that it will soon be lost. I urge everyone to get there for at least one round before it closes.
